Tufts Festival of Russian Music

March 1, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The annual Festival of Russian Music at Tufts University is back again! This year’s theme of the performance is “Found in Translation.” You will hear translations from Russian songs into English, and adaptations of some well-known English songs and ballads into Russian. While celebrating diversity and multiculturalism through music and poetry, the performance will also include solo and ensemble performances of Russian classical music, featuring the works by Shostakovitch, Glinka, Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, and Skriabin, as well as Russian gypsy folk songs and dances, and Russian- Jewish traditional folk dances. Register to attend here.

The program includes:

Ensemble and solo Indian Hill Music School and Tufts University students that will present piano soloists performing Russian classical composers.

The NY-Boston group Triton (Anton Karnaukh, Lizzy Karnaukh, Dmitry Kleinbock, Anna Mirny, Vladimir Ponomarev) is presenting a unique international program of songs, called “Found in Translation.” This program features soulful compositions ranging from Russian bard songs and romances to jazz standards.

Providence-based musical ensemble “Gained in Translation” is performing a swirling set of Russian gypsy-inspired music. The group includes Victoria Richter (accordion, vocals), Maurice Methot (guitar, vocals), Chris Brooks (lead guitar), Julia Fischer (bass guitar) and Carry Sarkissian (percussion, drums).

Vladimir Foigelman is performing Russian and Eastern European Jewish dances.
