Jacky Huma joined the Financial Services Board (FSB) in 1995 as an Analyst, and progressed through the ranks to being appointed as Head of Department: Insurance Compliance in 2005, responsible for the supervision of the conduct of registered insurance companies in South Africa, in the interest of policyholder protection. In November 2011 Jacky was tasked with establishing the FSB’s Microinsurance Supervision Department, which she is currently heading. The establishment of the department was as a result of the South African government’s policy position to support the development of an inclusive insurance sector through the proportionate and appropriate regulation and supervision of microinsurance. The department will be responsible for the implementation and supervision of the proposed Microinsurance legislation. Jacky is actively involved in various financial inclusion initiatives, amongst others, she is a member of the Financial Inclusion Working Group, which is a Subcommittee of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS); she is also leading a team which is looking at ways of assisting informal entities in the funeral insurance industry to formalise their operations in order to create a safer insurance environment for the low-income market. Jacky obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of the North (South Africa) and certificates in Management Advancement Program as well as the International Executive Development Program from the Wits Business School: University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa).
