Mussah A. Kamara obtained his Bachelor’s of Science Degree from the University of Liberia in 2000 and a Masters of Arts (MA) in Development Economics from the Center for Development Economics, Williams College, Massachusetts, USA in June 2007 with a joint World Bank/Japan Scholarship. He joined the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) in 2000 in the Regulation and Supervision Department and rose to the position of Director of the Department in 2008. As Director of Regulation and Supervision Department of the CBL, Mr. Kamara has played a pivotal role in the ongoing reform of the Liberian financial system and in driving the financial inclusion agenda of the Bank, under the leadership of Dr. J. Mills Jones, the Executive Governor of the Bank, whose economic vision is based on inclusive finance and economic development. He is presently one of the Principal Representatives of the CBL to the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) and an active member of the Consumer Protection and Market Conduct (CEMC) Working Group of AFI. He is also playing an important role in promoting mobile money and the establishment of rural community finance institutions in Liberia, as a means of extending financial services in the reach of the rural and low-income population. He has participated in several international workshops, seminars and fora organized by the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the West African Monetary Institute (WAMI), etc. In his current capacity, Mr. Kamara served as a senior policy adviser to the Deputy Governor for Economic Policy and the Executive Governor of the CBL on financial sector policy matters.
