The Fletcher School is home to fifteen fields of study that students specialize or concentrate in while meeting the academic requirements of their program. Most fields are interdisciplinary and feature institutes and faculty whose work intersects many fields. In each field, students have a choice between many elective classes to fulfill their requirements. Students interested in food systems should search their course catalog and requirements within each field of study when choosing appropriate fields to concentrate in.
Fields of study include international economic relations, human security and humanitarian affairs, and global governance and international organizations.
Each field of study could be viewed from the lens of food systems and students should talk to the Field Advisor for each field of study to best choose courses that align with their education goals.
For example, the Global Governance and International Organizations Field of Study gives students skills in implementing international law and policy and understanding the practices of international organizations in the context of the environment, human rights, development and migration, and conflict and trade. These are all important skills required by tomorrow’s leaders of food system transformations.
Electives of the Global Governance and International Organizations Field of Study include Sustainable Development Diplomacy, International Environmental Law, Selected Issues in Law of the Sea, and Cross-Sector Partnerships, among many others. Students can choose electives that align with their education and career goals in food systems.
Please visit the Fields of Study website for more information on each field of study. Contact information for each Field Advisor is listed in each field’s page.
