Multi-project Program Manager
Do you have a background in Math, Science, or Science Studies? Are you considering a new career in outreach and communication? Want to make a big impact with democracy reform or an innovative mentorship program?
We are hiring for a full-time position with elements in program design, communications, grant writing, and project management. The program manager position consists of three components, each with different but related administrative responsibilities. There is lots of room for creativity—we would love to hire a partner and collaborator, someone who will take initiative in shaping the programming and direction in each of the three components:
- Program manager for Metric Geometry and Gerrymandering Group (40 %)
Coordinate a team of mathematicians and computer scientists working together with legal and political scholars and civil rights and community groups to identify and combat gerrymandering.
Key administrative responsibilities: Seeking grant support, creating and managing database of community participants, media strategy and coordination, conference organization, managing publication of edited volume.
- Program manager for Tufts Science, Technology and Society program (40 %)
Help run new interdisciplinary program at Tufts, now offering a major and a minor.
Key administrative responsibilities: Long-range program planning, budgeting, event programming and planning, public communications, student services and outreach, program assessment.
- DRP network manager (15 %)
Coordinate national mathematics mentorship network centered on the Directed Reading Program (DRP). At least 14 programs are already running, pairing undergraduates with graduate student mentors to do reading projects in math.
Key administrative responsibilities: Outreach, professional communication, research study coordination (including IRB approval process), conference planning, website design.

Graphic design? Theorem-proving? Refining teaching materials? Depends on you!
Overall qualifications: Relevant experience includes event organization/planning (e.g., academic conferences), professional communications, grant writing, project management (including team supervision), web design, STEM outreach, graduate work in mathematics, STS, or related field (PhD preferred but not required). Database management and familiarity with IRB process would be an asset.
Salary: approx. $70k/year depending on experience
Term: initial term of 1.5 years, possibly extendable pending funding. (Shorter term possible too.)
