Rome: January 8-10, 2016

The Post-Paris World
January 8-10, 2016

Rome, Italy

We invite you to experience again the intellectual stimulation and camaraderie of your GMAP year as you join us in beautiful and historic Rome for our 8th Alumni Weekend. In the Eternal City, you will update and deepen your knowledge of international affairs and current events with stimulating and engaging executive education sessions; renew the bonds of friendship and community that characterize the GMAP experience; and make new connections to build your network and further your career.

Deepen Your Knowledge

These are turbulent times for the world. Humanity must address the existential threat of global climate change while also raising millions of people out of poverty. The future of the European project is uncertain, as a continuing financial crisis threatens its very foundation.  Meanwhile, the threat of extremism seems to be everywhere. In these rapidly changing times, it is more important than ever for global professionals to keep their knowledge up-to-date.

As you have come to expect from GMAP, Alumni Weekend will offer the opportunity to learn from and engage with foremost experts on today’s world. We will hear from experts on a range of critical topics, including issues as diverse as security, refugee issues and migration, the economy, and the future of the European project. You will leave the weekend intellectually stimulated and engaged, with a deeper and broader knowledge of the trends shaping our world today.

Explore Historical and Contemporary Rome

We are especially excited to host this year’s Alumni Weekend in Rome, one of the world’s most beautiful and historic cities. The location of Alumni Weekend is mere steps from some of Rome’s most fascinating sites, including the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and Via Veneto. Join old friends and new connections as we take a tour of Rome, taking in such world-famous sights as the Colosseum, St. Peter’s Basilica, and the Sistine Chapel. Take some free time to explore on your own or with friends, getting to know Rome’s charming piazzas, quaint cafés, and splendid architecture. Of course, Italy is also known around the world for the excellence of its cuisine, and we will enjoy delicious meals featuring the fresh and sophisticated flavors of its renowned Mediterranean cuisine.

Build Your Network

No GMAP event would be complete without the opportunity to renew your bonds with your classmates and to forge new connections with alumni from other classes. The GMAP Alumni Weekend will include a number of social events and free time, with the opportunity to engage in conversations with your fellow alumni, make new friends, and experience again the camaraderie and community that is the hallmark of GMAP.

Accommodations

Due to the small size of the Sofitel Villa Borghese, where the residency will be taking place, we were not able to reserve a block of rooms for Alumni Weekend. Fortunately, there are a number of excellent hotels within easy walking distance to the Sofitel Villa Borghese.  Some recommended hotels include the following:

  • Hotel Savoy Roma
  • Hotel Eden
  • Hotel Splendide Royal Roma
  • The Westin Excelsior Rome
  • Rome Marriott Grand Hotel Flora
