Welcome to the Gouvea Research Group at Tufts University. We are researchers in the Department of Education, the Department of Biology, and the Institute for Research on Learning and Instruction (IRLI) who study learning and teaching in the life sciences.
While the research contexts and phenomena we study are variable, we tend to align ourselves with the following set of core commitments and values:
- asset/resource-based approaches to conceptualizing learners
- thinking and learning are dynamic systems phenomena
- science is a human practice, learned through participation in communities
