Hanukkah starts this evening at sundown and ends next Friday, December 18th. Also known as the “festival of lights,” Hanukkah commemorates the re-dedication of the holy temple in Jerusalem following the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire in the 2nd century B.C.E., when one night’s worth of oil miraculously lasted for eight nights.
