As we return to campus, you may have forgotten how to print from our printers on the 4th or 5th floors, or use the scanners on the 5th floor. (Maybe you’ve never used them before!) Below are some cursory instructions to get you started.
The scanners are free to use. Each scanner is hooked up directly to a computer. Make sure the scanner is turned on, open the scanning software on the computer, and set your settings. Bring a flash drive for transporting your scanned files off the computer.
Printing is not free. Black and white printing is $0.15
per page, and color printing is $0.45 per page. In order to pay for printing, you have to check your balance on your JumboCard (your Tufts University ID). For more information on which printer to send your file to, check out our page on printing here at Hirsh.
From sending your file to print, you swipe your card at the kiosks beside the printer. (If you have a JumboCard, you type in the JumboCard number and not your UTLN) There, you select the print job and confirm it.
If you have any trouble with the printers or scanners, you can tell anyone staffed at the IT Desk or the Library Service Desk. You can also email firstname.lastname@example.org.

Fear not! Health Sciences Writing Consultants will resume this Sunday, 8/2.
They’re offering the same great help with all your writing woes, but with a few logistical changes:
- All sessions will be held in Sackler 509, which is right by the small computer lab on the 5th floor.
- For the month of August, Sunday appointments will be held from 3pm to 6pm. The usual hours of 2pm to 5pm will resume on 9/13.
- Weekday sessions will be held from 4pm to 7pm on Thursdays, instead of Wednesdays.

It’s a new academic year here at Tufts’ Health Sciences Campus and the HHSL is piloting a new service model. You may have noticed that early in the mornings or late in the afternoons we only have one person on the service desk. Or perhaps you’ve noticed a lack of familiar librarian faces on the 4th floor.
Never fear! The HHSL librarians are alive and well and ready to serve you still!
This year we are piloting a service model where the librarians are largely “on call” – much like our resident and doctor patrons. If you need help from a librarian, please come to the 4th floor desk and the librarian on call will be happy to assist you. (It is not an inconvenience when a patron asks for help – it’s our job and we love to do it!)
