Parietal and Chief Cells of the Fundic Stomach

The parietal cells of the fundic stomach stain eosinophilic due to the large number of mitochondria in the cytoplasm. These organelles are involved in ion production and transport resulting in the formation of HCl in the lumen of the stomach. The chief cells produce and secret digestive enzymes in zymogen form. They have basophilic basal cytoplasm (RER)and light staining apical cytoplasm where the secretory granules are stored. PK0082. 2966-116. H&E. Original mag. 100x. Parietal cells. Chief cells.
