The portal triad is located in variable amount of connective tissue. The largest structure is the hepatic portal vein (which is filled with blood here). The artery is small and is distinguishable by its smooth muscle wall. The bile duct is usually quite distinctive. The central vein is not surrounded by any appliciable amount of connective tissue. Hepatocytes, arranged as plates but apprearing as cords in sections, are sandwiched by sinusoids which directs blood from the triad toward the central vein. Original mag. 25x. Liver lobule. Liver.
