Zona fasciculata in the adrenal cortex of the horse

Organ: Adrenal Cortex, Tissue: Zona fasciculata, Species: Horse. Comments: The cells of the zona fasciculata are vacuolated due to the presence of numerous lipid droplets in the cytoplasm. These cells produce glucocorticoids (cortisol and corticosterone) that are involved in carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism. Endothelial cells line the sinusoids.
