Epithelium of ovdicut mucosa.

The epithelium of the oviduct mucosa contains two major cell types, ciliated and secretory. The ciliated cells are columnar in shape and more numerous. The secretory cells have darker nuclei which are closer to the lumen than those of the ciliated cells. The secretory cells, also called peg cells, are “wedged” between the ciliated cells. Together, these two cell types makes the microenvironment of the oviduct suitable for gamete transport, fertilization and zygote transport. Original mag. 132x. H&E Oviduct.
