Red and White Pulp in Canine Spleen

This section was stained by the Gomori iron method in which the metal stained blue. The nuclear counter stain used was red-pink. The red blood cells did not stain and appear as yellowish structures. Notice the lymphoid nodule (numerous lymphocytes with pink nuclei) and the artery of the white pulp. The iron deposit is found in the red pulp because this is the location where old red blood cells are destroyed. In which main cells type do you think the iron is localized? Original mag. 33x. Gomori iron. Spleen. Dog
