Wall of an Intrapulmonary Bronchus

At this magnification, it is difficult to make out the cilia at the tip of the ciliated cells in this respiratory epithelium. Goblet cells are not obvious in this section. The smooth muscle cells of the muscularis mucosae are very prominent as are the chrondrocytes of the hyaline cartilage pieces. Notice that the serous glands are located external to the muscularis mucosae, thus they are submucosal glands. There are two arterioles in this sections. Are these ‘functional’ or ‘nutritive’ blood vessels? PK1573. Original mag. 40x. H&E. Respiratory epithelium. Intrapulmonary bronchus. Lung. Respiratory System.
