Respiratory Epithelium in Intrapulmonary Bronchus

This is a pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium with goblet cells. The tufts of cilia can be seen along with the apical dark line representing the basal bodies of the cilia. The goblet cells resemble classic wine glasses and the mucus stains grey-purple. You can see some of the mucus being release at the apical portions of a few goblet cells. Some of the small, round nuclei adjacent to the basal lamina belong to the basal reserve cells. Notice the small blood vessels in the lamina propria. The smooth muscle cells in the muscularis mucosae are clearly demonstrated here. PK1578. S1. Original mag.100x. H&E. Respiratory epithelium. Intrapulmonary Bronchus. Lung. Respiratory System.
