B.A.L.T. Bronchus Associated Lymphoid Tissue

All along the respiratory tract you will find various aggregated of lymphoid tissues. These form the B. A. L. T., the Bronchus Associated Lymphoid Tissue, as part of the pulmonary defense mechanism. This picture shows an aggregate of lymphocytes and other cells of the immune response in the submucosa of an intrapulmonary bronchus. The intact surface epithelium is the first line of defense, the cells of imune/inflammatory response form the second line of denfense not far away. PK1614. S1. H&E. Original mag. 33x. B.A.L.T.
