Ureter of Horse
Low power micrograph of the ureter from a horse. This is a typical hollow organ. The mucosa contains the transitional epithelium (urothelium). There are mucous glands the secretion of which gives the equine urine the stingy characteristic. The lamina propria is quite thick. There are two layers of smooth muscle cells in the upper portion of the ureter and three layers in the lower portion.
