Call for Proposals: 2024 IRTS Symposium
AI Governance for Whom: Institutions, individuals, …?

The Interdisciplinary Research in Technology & Society (IRTS) group at Tufts University invites submissions for participation in a half-day symposium on different approaches to AI governance, ethics, and innovation. This event aims to bring together local experts, scholars, and practitioners to discuss who impacts and who is impacted by artificial intelligence and attempts to govern it.
Background & Purpose
IRTS seeks to advance conversation and collaboration on the social and ethical implications of technology. In light of the rapid pace of advancement in fields with the potential for wide-spread disruption, such as artificial intelligence, we feel this aim is more pressing than ever. The goal of this symposium is to foster community among researchers and practitioners from a wide variety of fields, creating a space to discuss challenges and opportunities presented by AI governance and to learn from different disciplinary perspectives.
Topics
We are seeking proposals for 10-15 minute lightning talks related, but not limited, to the following:
- ● Regulatory frameworks for AI
- ● Social justice in technology
- ● AI ethics
- ● Critical data studies
- ● AI for social good
- ● AI and dis/misinformation
- ● AI and surveillance
- ● The global AI arms race
- ● International cooperation on AI governance
Format
The symposium will consist of a keynote and a series of lightning talks. Lunch and refreshments will be served. Presenters may use slides or speak from notes. The event will take place in-person only on the Tufts University campus from 12:00 to 3:00 pm on Monday, March 25, 2024.

Proposal Submission

Proposals should consist of a 200-word abstract and a title for your talk.
