CDR Aaron Delano-Johnson

Commander Aaron Delano-Johnson, United States Coast Guard

Commander Aaron Delano-Johnson is the US Coast Guard International Security Studies Program (ISSP) Fellow at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

Prior to the Fletcher School, he served as the US Coast Guard Liaison Officer (CGLO) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistant Attaché to the Republic of Haiti at US Embassy Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

He has held a variety of Embassy and sea-going command positions throughout his career, including eight years at sea on four Coast Guard cutters. Most recently completing a tour of duty as the Executive Officer of USCGC STEADFAST (WMEC 623), a medium endurance cutter, based in Astoria, Oregon that conducts maritime law enforcement patrols from the Pacific Northwest to South America under the US Coast Guard’s Western Hemisphere Strategy.

A permanent Cutterman, his additional shipboard operational assignments include Deck Watch Officer and Assistant Operations Officer aboard USCGC BEAR (WMEC 901), Executive Officer of USCGC SITKINAK (WPB 1329) and Commanding Officer of USCGC CHANDELEUR (WPB 1319), in support of Counter-Drug and Alien Migrant Interdiction Operations (CD/AMIO), search and rescue (SAR) and security cooperation across the Caribbean and South America.

Previous Embassy postings include service as a training advisor under the Georgian Border Security and Law Enforcement (GBSLE) Assistance Program at U.S. Embassy Tbilisi, Georgia, Deputy Chief of the Joint Interagency Task Force-South (JIATFS) Tactical Analysis Team (TAT), Cartagena, Colombia, US Coast Guard Liaison Officer to the Dominican Republic and SOUTHCOM Humanitarian Assistance Program manager at US Embassy Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

A native of Brownsmead, Oregon, Commander Delano-Johnson graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Management. He holds a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, a Master of Science in Leadership and Information Technology from Duquesne University and completed his Joint Professional Military Education via the US Air Force Command and Staff College.
