Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Workman, United States Army

Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Workman, has had a diverse Army career taking him from the tactical as an Infantry officer in Iraq to the national strategic in multiple positions at the Special Operations Command. He provides a broad view of the Department of Defense and how it works with the Interagency to achieve its directed missions.

From Kailua, Hawaii, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry in 1997 after graduating from the United States Military Academy, West Point. Following completion of the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Airborne, and Ranger School, Lieutenant Colonel Workman served as a Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer in 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry, in the 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.

Following his assignment in Fort Drum, Lieutenant Colonel Workman was assigned to Ft. Benning, Georgia from 2000 – 2002 where he commanded an Infantry Basic Training Company (Bravo, 1st Battalion 19th Infantry Regiment) and completed the Infantry Officers Advanced Course.
In 2002, Lieutenant Colonel Workman was assigned to 1st Armored Division in Wiesbaden, Germany, where he served as a Division Plans Officer for the deployment to and combat operations in Iraq. He then moved to the Division’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team to serve as the Brigade Plans officer in Baghdad, Iraq from 2003-2004. He took command of C Company and later Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment which he deployed with from 2005-2006 to Ramadi, Iraq.

From 2007 to 2009, Lieutenant Colonel Workman attended and graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School with a Master of Science in Operations Research with a focus on Optimization. He was then assigned to the Training and Doctrine Command Analysis Center at White Sands Missile Range from 2009-2012 as a Combat Analyst and Senior Military Analyst where he used modeling and simulation to inform the procurement of the next generation of weapons systems.

From 2012 – 2015 he served at the Joint Interagency Task Force – National Capital Region as the National Security Policy and Engagements Team Lead coordinating efforts between elements of the Department of Defense and other National agencies against threat networks.

Lieutenant Colonel Workman’s last assignment, from 2015 – 2017, was with the US Special Operations Command Commander’s Action Group and later as the Executive Officer to the Commander. In 2017 Lieutenant Colonel Workman deployed to Jordan as the Chief of Staff of a Multi-National Joint Task Force designed to empower, support and integrate the efforts of international, interagency, and Joint Force partners to disrupt trans-regional terrorist networks and their ability to recruit and field foreign fighters.

Lieutenant Colonel Workman is a graduate of Airborne, Air Assault, Sapper, and Ranger Schools. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. He and his wife, Carrie, have been married for over 18 years and have three children: Jack (14), Kate (11), and Anna (10).
