The Microbiology Media Kitchen (MMK), housed in Tufts University School of Medicine’s Department of Molecular Biology and Microbiology, is known for more than fifty years of proven excellence in the preparation of all forms of growth media for bacteria and yeast as well as biological buffers and other chemical reagents. We proudly provide high-quality products at some of the lowest rates available. Our prices average about half that of industry.

The MMK can prepare standard liquid and solid media in small to large quantities, and can also prepare custom media not usually available commercially. Complex and defined media with custom additions such as antibiotics, required supplements (vitamins, amino acids, etc.) are also available. In the case of defined media, alternate carbon sources or growth factors can be ordered. Standard pricing will include most additions with the exception that the user will provide certain expensive antibiotics and growth supplements or a surcharge for their purchase will be imposed.

Media can typically be provided within 2-3 working days, and can be delivered to your lab at TUSM or TMC without cost. Labs outside of the Tufts Boston Campus will need to arrange for pickup.

Finally, electrocompetent or chemically competent E. coli strains can be prepared, with specified competence documented and at prices lower than commercially available. In addition, the choice of E. coli strain to be prepared can be customized according to research needs.
