Checkouts by Mail

  • Checkouts by mail are only available to students officially listed as studying remotely.  On campus students must make arrangements to pick up their equipment loans via the Locker Checkout System.
  • Standard loan duration for a checkout by mail is 3 weeks.  Students may request longer loans, but approval depends on demand for the item.
  • To initiate a checkout by mail request, please email Dan O’Connor at dan.oconnor@tufts.edu.
  • Checkouts by mail have a two business day turnaround to pack and ship.
  • The loan period starts on the day we ship the items to you and the equipment due date is the date you must ship the equipment back to us.  We will be checking postmarks.
  • We will ship the equipment with a prepaid UPS return shipment label.  Please keep and reuse all packaging from the return shipment.
  • Please repack your item securely in the original packaging.  You may be held responsible for equipment damage in transit caused due to poor packing.
  • Drop you package off with UPS before end of business on the day of the return deadline.
  • Equipment returns that are not postmarked by the due date will incur a standard fine of $20 per item per day.
  • You may request to extend your loan by emailing Dan O’Connor -dan.oconnor@tufts.edu.  Requests for loan extension must be made at least 2 business days before the return deadline.
  • There are limits to what we can ship, so some items may not be available for checkout by mail, including:
    • Items that are very large or heavy.  UPS has a limit of 150 pounds and 165 inches in length and girth combined.  That means that large light kits like Profoto, Lowel lights, Dedo, Arri lights, will not be available for shipment.
    • Batteries.  Shipment regulations restrict the shipment of batteries by air.  Cameras and other equipment with rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries can only be shipped with one battery per package.  Equipment items that take commonly available batteries (AA, AAA, etc) will not be shipped with batteries.  You will have to purchase your own.
