Description:

The Visitor Research and Evaluation Department at the Museum of Science supports the development of educational programs and exhibitions at the Museum by soliciting feedback from visitors during the development process and by conducting research about museum learning.

Position Summary:

This internship provides interns with the opportunity to learn about visitor research and evaluation through on-the-job training and development. Interns will become familiar with the tools and methods that provide effective and ineffective learning experiences by observing and interviewing visitors as they interact with the museum’s programs and exhibits. Efforts will be made to provide the intern with the opportunity to experience all aspects of conducting a visitor study.

Responsibilites:

– Conduct unobtrusive observations, interviews, and/or surveys of museum visitors.

– Enter data collected from museum visitors.

– Analyze data collected.

– Perform literature reviews about topics relevant to the study.

Qualifications:

– Undergraduate/graduate student (Museum Studies/Education students encouraged to apply).

– Outgoing, willing to talk to visitors.

– Familiarity with the Museum preferred.

Length of Internship:

Fall 2011 (September/October – December)

Work Schedule:

14 hours/week (two full 7 – hour days per week).

Salary Range:

8.00 – 8.25/hour
