Working under the supervision

of the senior curators at the Addison Gallery of American

Art, the Curatorial Assistant assists the curatorial department in all

aspects of their responsibilities, including department administration,

research and catalogue collections, development and maintenance

of artist and object records, curatorial loans, development

and implementation of exhibition and publication projects, and

general curatorial inquiries.

 

Additional duties and responsibilities: Assist the curatorial department’s

development and implementation of exhibition and publication

projects with particular focus on management of loans,

checklists, manuscripts, associated correspondence, and record

keeping; assist with all aspects of departmental administration,

including answering inquiries from the public and scholars; carry

out, under supervision, research, care, and interpretation of permanent

collection; write interpretive text, wall texts, and catalogue

entries as requested; assist with planning and development of

artists’ projects, public programming, and artist-in-residence program;

manage artists’ submissions; serve as curatorial liaison for

team-taught Museum Studies course.

 

Qualifications: MA degree in art or art history, with emphasis on

modern or contemporary art, or BA with significant museum experience.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and

proven interpretive writing ability required. High level of enthusiasm,

strict attention to detail, and rigorous approach to tasks. Ability

to work cooperatively with a curatorial team, manage more

than one project at a time, and meet deadlines. Superior research,

computer, and database skills required. Interest in and capacity to

interact with students necessary.
