GENERAL SUMMARY

The Coordinator of Education Programs ensures the highest quality of our offerings to schools and families by continually researching new developments in education theory and childhood development. In collaboration with the Curator of Education, the Coordinator ensures the implementation of philosophical and methodological guidelines in all programs, helping with outreach, logistics, and gathering evaluation.  The Coordinator supervises the Education Outreach Assistant.  The primary focus of the Coordinator of Education Programs is to accommodate education programs for elementary students, overseeing scheduling and workshops on a daily basis. The Coordinator will also be involved with other Education Department related programs when needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Group Visits Program
*Coordinate and conduct outreach to schools K-12 grade for group visits.
*Schedule and coordinate museum visits by phone and e-mail, in addition to scheduling freelance instructors.
*Serve as substitute tour guide and teaching artist for Group Visits Program.
*Coordinate outreach efforts for other education programs.
*Oversee art materials, inventory, and classroom maintenance.
*Maintain daily contact with security and maintenance for Education Programs.
*Cultivate schools.
*Maintain education contacts in Bronx Museum database.
*Maintain tracking data for Group Visits Program and Family Affair.
*Provide materials and information to Development for grant applications and reports.

School Partnerships with Elementary Schools
*Liaise with school officials and, in some cases, the funder.
*Coordinate planning, implementation, and evaluation of partnership.
*Supervise museum instructors.
*Organize final event.
*Coordinate the work of Education Dept. Interns.

Family Affair
*Oversee the design of seasonal afternoon Saturday program for families.
*Supervise the Outreach Education Assistant to implement outreach and planning of events.

QUALIFICATIONS
*3-5+ years of experience in dealing with the public, primarily with teachers (in NYC) and organization leaders.
*Demonstrated interest in museum education.
*Excellent interpersonal skills and phone etiquette.
*Ability to multitask and problem solve.
*Must have basic MS Office skills (e.g. Outlook, Excel, and Word).
*Ability to prioritize tasks and excellent time management skills.
B.A. degree required
*Knowledge or interest in art, art history, museum education, and/or NYC public school system, preferred.
*Multi-lingual, preferred.
