The Galveston Arts Center is seeking an Executive Director to oversee current activities and responsibilities and guide the organization through a healthy leadership transition.

 

Mission of the Galveston Arts Center:

 

Believing contemporary art can inspire, engage, provoke and inform, the Galveston Arts Center (GAC) presents dynamic and innovative work focusing on professional visual artists living or working in Texas. As a non-collecting, non-profit museum, the GAC furthers the careers of emerging and mid-career professional artists through the production of quality exhibitions and supporting media. Collaborative, wide-ranging education and outreach programs create a public forum to engage diverse audiences in an exploration of thought- provoking ideas that inform contemporary art and our experiences in a complex world.  See GAC website for more information: www.galvestonartscenter.org

 

Qualifications:

  • BA, BFA, MA, MFA or MBA or professional equivalent with experience in nonprofit administration, preferably visual arts;
  • Quantifiable fundraising and grant writing experience;
  • Effective and efficient time management and organizational skills; and,
  • Strong verbal, written, communication and technical skills.

Job Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain daily operations;
  • Plan annual program calendar for Executive Board’s approval;
  • Manage staff and volunteers;
  • Attend various community functions and meetings as GAC’s representative, including occasional weekends and evenings;
  • Write and submit grants in accordance with annual fundraising calendar;
  • Submit monthly action report to Executive Board;
  • Ensure GAC satisfies existing obligations of on-going projects and grants, working towards on-time and on-budget completions;
  • Develop and recommend policies to the Executive Board;
  • Meet with funders to maintain donor relations;
  • Develop external collaborative opportunities;
  • Represent contemporary arts in the public arena;
  • Assist the Executive Board in exploring employee structural options; and,
  • 40 hours per week with limited local travel.
  • Skills, abilities, and attributes:
  • Ability to work with staff, Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Advisory Committee and volunteers;
  • Ability to create and maintain positive donor and funder relationships;
  • Ability to create and maintain positive community and media relationships;
  • Excellent fiscal management abilities, including budget, grant, and financial administration;
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation/communication skills;
  • Efficient and effective organizational and leadership skills;
  • Project management experience;
  • Background knowledge of, and established advocacy for, contemporary art and related issues; and,
  • Reputation for integrity.
  • Other:
  • Executive Director reports directly to the Galveston Arts Center Executive Board of Directors;
  • Compensation is $55,000.00 plus benefits, commensurate with experience and skills; and,
  • Position will be open until filled.
