Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Penn Museum Gift Shop Manager will be responsible for the day to day management, sales, customer service, operations and inventory management of the shop. This person provides leadership and guidance to gift store staff, helping to recruit, train and develop a successful sales team, and creates an environment focused on customer satisfaction and exemplary customer service, maximum productivity, profitability, and loss prevention. Duties include, but are not limited to, occasionally work with internal Museum departments to discuss product selection; assist with the display and presentation of merchandise, change displays regularly, supervise and work with staff to stock and display merchandise, supervise cashiering and receipting of sales, take regular inventory of stock; maintain payroll and non-payroll expenses in accordance with the financial plan. This is a three-year term position, with renewal subject to funding and the structure of overall gift shop operations.

Job Requirements

BA/BS preferably in business or related field plus 3-5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; experience in retail management and proven track record in achieving sales results; strong written and verbal communication skills; superior customer service skills; Prior exposure to retail merchandising and visual concepts is preferred. The Museum is closed to the public on Mondays, so this person must be able to work flexible schedules. Weekend work will be required, as well as some evenings.
