Reporting to the Director of Foundation & Government Relations (F&G), the Senior Grants Officer is responsible for securing foundation and government funding for the Aquarium’s programs and operations. Provide support to principal investigators (PIs) and Aquarium staff members in proposal, submittal, and stewardship process. Gain knowledge of Aquarium initiatives and PI research foci and areas of expertise. Serve as a partner to PIs in devising and implementing approaches and strategies for potential funders. Identify and cultivate new prospects. Assist Director in the development of strategic plans for the overall program, as well as mechanisms to measure and report progress and results.
Qualifications:

Minimum Training and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of eight years of grant writing or closely-related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 
Required:
• Exceptional writing skills with demonstrated experience developing, writing and editing proposals and supporting documents.
• Ability to think creatively and strategically.
• Outstanding organizational skills.
• Ability to set priorities and perform multiple complex tasks in a deadline driven environment, with attention to quality, accuracy and detail.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills to initiate and maintain strong and productive internal and external working relationships.
• Familiarity with budgets and ability to create spreadsheets. Proficiency with Word and Excel.
• Willingness to work longer days to meet proposal submission deadlines.

Preferred:
• Proven success in securing funds from private foundations and/or governmental agencies.
• Knowledge of fundraising principles and processes of grant seeking, including researching and identifying potential funding sources.
• Familiarity or experience through informal education with STEM education or environmental conservation.
• Experience with Grants.gov, NSF Fastlane, and Raiser’s Edge (or similar data base).
• Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat.
