This position has the primary responsibility to establish and direct the day-to-day financial operations, and related programs and services of the organization, as well as the operational activities associated with museum expansion. This position also assists the Museum Director/CEO in the development and implementation of the organization’s mission, vision, strategic plans, and goals.

Essential Functions:

  1. Establishes, directs and oversees the finance function for the Anchorage Museum Association. This includes the preparation of all financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, reports to the board of directors and members, tax returns, and reports for grant funders and government regulatory agencies.
  2. Prepares, analyzes, and oversees museum finances, including preparation of operating and capital budgets for present and future needs.
  3. This position has management and supervisory responsibilities for all accounting functions and Account Specialists.
  4. Analyze data and projects revenues and costs against actual figures, budgeted expenses against final totals, and advises on methods of improving the planning and budgeting process as appropriate.
  5. Assist with the integration of the Museum with constituent organizations.
  6. Assists with the development of short and long range plans in collaboration with key stakeholders to meet the organization’s mission, goals, and objectives.
  7. Organization-wide facilitation of the annual budget and audit processes.
  8. Ensures liability risk exposures are identified and treated when proposing new programs and services.
  9. Assists the Museum Director and the Facility Manager in the planning and implementation Museum expansions.

Job Requirements

Knowledge/Skills/Qualifications:

  1. Undergraduate degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting and/or finance.
  2. CPA designation required.
  3. Three years prior experience as a manager of financial or budgetary activities or operations may be substituted.
  4. Two years’ project management experience required.
  5. Two years’ grant accounting experience preferred.
  6. Experience with physical expansions preferred.
  7. Knowledge of database and accounting computer application systems.
  8. Experience in employee relations and information technology preferred.
  9. Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills.

10. Excellent analytical and organizational skills.

11. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
