Job Description

Performs professional museum exhibition work for the County’s Marine Museum.  Work involves designing and constructing exhibits for the museum and directing exhibit programs and services.  Work requires an advanced degree and experience in the field.  Work is performed under administrative supervision.

Job Requirements

Plans, designs, schedules and prioritizes exhibitions.

Supervises staff engaged in exhibit work: assigns and reviews work, and takes actions to adjust work, staffing and operations to meet requirements; trains staff in new procedures.  Participates in and initiates actions regarding hiring, transfer, promotion, payroll, leaves, performance and other personnel actions.

Attends meetings.

Designs, fabricates, maintains, and repairs exhibits.

Prepares and writes various exhibit materials.

Contacts outside providers for services.

Prepares and manages budget.

Other Duties Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.)
Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of museum exhibit management as applied to the programs of the Marine Museum.
  • Effective techniques of supervision.

Ability to:

  • Design and develop exhibits and exhibit programs appropriate for the museum.
  • Supervise staff engaged in exhibit work.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others encountered in the work.
  • Manage staff, daily operations, and policy development and implementation.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Deal effectively with the public.
