Old Sturbridge Village has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Education! As one of the nation’s premier outdoor living history museums, the Education division is uniquely positioned to leverage all of the Village’s offerings to connect and highlight the relevance of 1830s values to life in the 21st century.  We seek a Director of Education who can reimagine our education program to complement and supplement the vibrant interpretive and exhibit programs and improve access for patrons of all ages and abilities. Reporting to the President, the Director will work in close collaboration with Public Programs, Curatorial, and other museum staff to plan, implement, and evaluate the museum’s educational programs.  He/she will also develop and maintain positive relationships with various constituents such as the public school system, parents and children, students and teachers, donors and potential donors, and colleagues in the museum field. The Director supervises a corps of Facilitators, volunteers, and contract program providers.

Candidate Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ education experience in a museum setting; Master’s degree preferred. Schedule flexibility and availability for weekend and evening program duties. Incumbent will have an in-depth knowledge of American history. Proficiency with scheduling, logistics, and Microsoft Office. Strong sense of initiative and responsibility. Record of building sustainable mission-based programs. S/he will be an effective team player and leader, and a gracious listener and communicator.
