The Ruth Mott Foundation based in Flint, Michigan, is a non-profit philanthropic organization offering grants and programs that serve the Greater Flint community. The Foundation operates Applewood, the historic home of the Charles Stewart Mott families, to demonstrate and support its mission.

Job Purpose:

Assists Collections & Exhibitions Manager with collections interpretation and programming, preservation actions, visitor experience and exhibit support. Provides clerical and project support as needed.

Primary Duties:

Help plan and develop the Foundation’s participatory educational programs, tours and exhibits that make use of Mott families’ legacy and support the foundation’s mission.
Research new and existing visitor experience and educational models as well as teaching standards for use of historic resources in programs and events.
Research audience needs and expectations for students, teachers, groups, children and families.
Research the collections and Mott family legacy to ensure accurate and inspiring interpretive programming.
Develop and maintain educational program curriculum, resources and supplies.
Provide training on interpretation of the collections and Mott family legacy to staff, volunteers and teachers/community group leaders.
Deliver educational programs, tours and activities.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree. Preferred degree programs include: Museum Studies, Education, Anthropology, History, Art History, Arts Administration and Library Science.
Work requires at least two years museum or teaching experience.
Research, analytical, organizational, computer and writing skills required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, desktop publishing, and web applications.
Experience with Collections Management Databases (e.g. Past Perfect) is desirable.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with people from different cultures and backgrounds, with colleagues, community-based organizations and Mott family members and to be appropriately discreet about the Mott family collection.
