The Annenberg Space for Photography is a cultural destination dedicated to exhibiting both digital and print photography in an intimate environment. The space features state-of-the-art, high-definition digital technology as well as traditional prints by some of the world’s most renowned photographers and a selection of emerging photographic talents as well. The venue, an initiative of the Annenberg Foundation and its trustees, is the first solely photographic cultural destination in the Los Angeles area, and it creates a new paradigm in the world of photography.

Overview

Supports the creative aspects of Annenberg Photography Space through exhibition research and development, assists the licensing of contractual agreements.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Works with the Talent & Content Director to assist in the negotiation of contracts for images and licenses with photographers, and those who are featured in the exhibitions. Processing license agreements, tracking and the filing of agreements using our Digital Asset Management system
  • Works with the Photo Editor and DAM archivist for image submissions and delivery for exhibitions
  • Works with the Assistant Registrar to ensure contractual agreements are upheld in the shipping and delivery of original artworks from photographers and outside sources, as well as correct credit lines for artworks
  • Works with Communications Department and Annenberg Ventures to insure image usages, credit lines and rights follow the exhibition contractual agreements
  • Contributes to the research and development of exhibitions and programs
  • Handle preliminary tasks, such as facilitating meetings for management
  • Acting as a liaison between departments providing help and information as needed, for Annenberg Foundation’s staff, Communications Department as well as the Annenberg Space for Photography Events & Hospitality Manager and floor staff

Primary Interactions:

  • Regular contact with the Talent and Content Director, Assistant Registrar, and Photo Editor and Archivist.

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in working with artists and or those in the creative field
  • Deep understanding of the vision/mission/values established by the Trustees
  • Deep understanding of the Foundation’s history/vision/projects and ability to recognize the potential historical and research value of materials to be archived
  • Knowledge of basic archival principals and procedures
  • Ability to skillfully manage projects, photo edit and will be responsible for ingesting photographers contracts into the asset management system, which working under the creative direction of the Talent and Content Manager.

  • Ability to effectively use a variety of standard office software applications (e.g., Word, Excel), as well as Mac and Apple systems and software to include Photoshop.

  • Persistence, initiative and follow-through when completing independent tasks


Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of relative photographic/art experience – or an equivalent blend of education and experience.

Legal experience in the reading and interpretation of contracts and licensing, preferably for those in the creative arts

Working Conditions:

Works primarily in an office environment but may also spend time on site visits or in public venues – use of computers requires hand/wrist motion and visual focus – requires extensive review of written and visual materials and archival documentation.
