Tour Guides are responsible for interpreting the historic home and gardens. Guides lead 50-minute tours, assist self-guiding visitors and provide for the safety and security of the property and our visitors.  Excellent opportunity for college students, teachers or anyone with love of literature, history, architecture, gardening or landscape design. Candidates with a particular interest in joining our ghost tour team or with a theatrical background are encouraged to apply.  Full or part-time positions available, with some evening hours for special events.  The full season runs from May 1 – October 31 with some positions ending earlier.
Qualifications:
Prior experience as a guide, public speaker, or other work in customer service is preferred. Qualified applicants should have at least one year of college education and must have flexible schedules and excellent customer service skills.  All seasonal positions at The Mount require weekend and holiday availability.

About this Organization:
The Mount, located in the heart of the Berkshires, is both a historic site and a cultural destination inspired by the passions and achievements of Edith Wharton. Designed and built by Edith Wharton in 1902, the house embodies the principles outlined in her influential book, The Decoration of Houses (1897). The property includes three acres of formal gardens designed by Wharton, who was also an authority on European landscape design, surrounded by extensive woodlands. Programming at The Mount reflects Wharton’s core interests in the literary arts, interior design and decoration, garden and landscape design, and the art of living. Annual exhibits explore themes from Wharton’s life and work.
