GENERAL SUMMARY

The Director, Campaign has responsibility for the cultivation and solicitation of endowment campaign gifts in concert with the other Development officers responsible for annual, major, corporate, and planned giving. This position also coordinates the Campaign Committee of the Board of Directors. This position serves as liaison to one (or more) DIA auxiliary support group.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work with staff to recruit, motivate and train volunteers to set endowment campaign gift goals
  • Develop short- and long-term plans for endowment campaign gift cultivation and solicitation strategies to meet endowment goals
  • Evaluate the quantitative and qualitative success of campaign plans. Report to the Vice President of Development on a regular and timely basis on the progress of campaign cultivation and solicitation
  • Work with the volunteer Campaign Committee, composed of members of the Board of Directors and senior volunteers, to implement an organized program of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for endowment campaign gifts
  • Identify potential campaign donors: nationally, regionally and in the Detroit metropolitan area
  • Work with the Director of Major Gifts and Corporate Relations, other Gift Officers and Planned Giving Associate in the design and implementation of campaign gift cultivation and solicitation so that there is a coordinated fundraising approach
  • Work in conjunction with the Board Chairman and Vice President of Development to solicit campaign gifts from board members, Development Committee members, key museum leadership, and others
  • Conceptualize and create the necessary support materials needed to effectively solicit endowment campaign gifts.
  • Responsible for campaign budgets, implementing cost controls, fiscal year forecasts, and long-term projections
  • Assist with the Moves Management module of Raiser’s Edge
  • Prepare all special correspondence for the portfolio of donors and donor prospects managed by this position
  • Design, develop and implement cultivation and solicitation plans for each donor and donor prospect with in the portfolio managed by this position
  • Participate as a part of the Development department team in a collegial fashion
  • Maintain good relationships with all who help facilitate the effective conduct of the development department
  • Supervise positions may ultimately be assigned
  • Carry out other activities as assigned by the Vice President of Development

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • Five or more years of experience with cultivation and solicitation of major donors
  • The ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form
  • The ability to relate to and build meaningful relationships with a diverse population of donors and prospective donors
  • The ability to work on a team
  • Competency and proficiency in computer programs
  • Familiarity with the museum environment
