The Designer is responsible for developing and implementing design solutions that impact and shape the Museum visitor’s experience. The Designer must exercise independent judgment to develop creative and innovative ways to design and produce graphic material for exhibition brochures, exhibition cards, marketing materials, building and exhibition signage, and posters. The designer is also responsible for creating and producing graphic material for email, video, television and the web.

The Designer also manages the Tang Museum’s digital media portfolio consisting of thousands of images from exhibiting artists, installation documentation, multimedia artworks and other electronic publications.

BFA in graphic design, contemporary art or digital production. MFA or equivalent desired. 3-5 years design and production experience in museum environment with strong contemporary art background necessary.

Expert skills using techniques, materials, equipment and software used in graphic design, multimedia development and video authoring such as: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Max/MSP/Jitter, Pro-Tools, Flash and new applications as they are developed. The candidate should also have a working knowledge of HTML and CSS and be familiar with web tools like Moveable Type and Word Press.

Must possess the ability to create and oversee print productions from conception through printing. Additionally, the candidate must be able to author multimedia projects for gallery installations and traveling exhibitions in a variety of formats including DVD, CD-ROM, and other electronic publishing formats. Must also possess the ability to manage digital assets with tools such as Extensis Portfolio, Merlin or Canto Cumulus. Strong organizational and communication skills are necessary.

Must have aptitude for quick problem solving and visual thinking with acute attention to detail within demanding deadlines.
