Reporting to the Public Relations Director, the Public Relations Manager will develop media outreach and social media strategies to increase awareness, drive attendance, build the MFA brand, and support key Communications priorities, including exhibitions, new galleries, programs and events. The Public Relations Manager will assist in supervising daily activities of the department Editor and Public Relations and Social Media Coordinators. Essential functions include: develop fiscal year media relations plan for the MFA, as well as individual strategies for campaigns and high-profile exhibitions, programs, and events; develop strategy and implement plan for placement of key MFA features – targeting art, architecture, lifestyle, education, technology journalists – in local, national, online and international media outlets; manage Museum’s daily digital clipping system and archives, including weekend monitoring of major stories and providing updates to MFA staff; serve as a resource on current media trends, including social media and new digital movements, and contribute to the PR Department’s database of media contacts, staying abreast of changes at local and national outlets and freelancers; in executing public relations programs, work effectively with Museum spokespeople on key messages and best interview practices, including MFA Director, Departmental Chairs, Curators, and Education/Programming staff.

35 hours/week; Mon-Fri, 9:00am-5:00pm; some night and weekend hours required.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, along with a minimum of 7 years of related work experience. Additional qualifications include: knowledge of local and national media landscape as well as digital and social media; proficient and creative writing skills, along with attention to detail, editing, organizational, and communication skills; facility with social media; experience managing media and staff; agency experience a plus.
