Curatorial Assistant, Thomson Collection

 Temporary Full-Time, 35 hours per week

Up to 13 Months

Role:

A member of the Curatorial team, this position supports curatorial activity related to the Thomson Collection of European Art through research, analysis, and exhibition project development. This includes tracking and reporting information about works of art, loans, lenders, and the content of the exhibitions and collection displays for internal and external stake holders.

Objectives:

  • Analyzes and researches bibliographic and historical information to document object history, create briefing materials, and to support Curatorial documentation and conservation requirements
  • Completes the necessary research and documentation to complete Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board (CCPERB)applications.
  • Responds to requests for primary object information to internal and external stakeholders as needed. Develops related texts, presentations, and proposals as required

Qualifications:

  • Graduate level education and extensive knowledge of art history broadly with an in-depth knowledge of European Decorative Art, especially late-medieval, Renaissance and Baroque ivory and boxwood object histories
  • Minimum 2 years directly related experience in the provenance research of European Decorative Arts and Sculpture & curatorial experience researching collaboratively and cross-departmentally within a comparable museum
  • 2-3 years demonstrated curatorial and organization/administrative experience with both theoretical and hands-on processes developing and coordinating exhibitions.
  • Experience presenting and writing about European Decorative Arts, both art historically and as they relate to contemporary society
  • Working-knowledge of studies and theories related to ship models and Canadian decorative arts
  • Working -knowledge of the installation process, proper care and handling of works of art
  • Demonstrated experience working with a variety of computer software packages, including collections management software TMS
  • Demonstrated experience with museum art acquisition processes and practices, experience with CCPERB application preparation preferred
  • Knowledge of German, French, and Latin an asset

Salary to be negotiated: $55,000 – $69,300 annually, Medical Benefits, Dental Benefits,
