Description
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world’s finest museums, seeks a Development Assistant. The Development Assistant is responsible for all administrative aspects of the Foundation and Government Giving area.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
• Draft acknowledgements for foundation and government contributions and correspondence for the Director, President, VP for Advancement, and other senior staff
• Write preparatory memoranda for staff meetings with foundation donors and giving histories as required
• Assist in the preparation of grant proposals, reports, and other communications
• Oversee all aspects of the foundation annual appeal, including drafting appeal text, coordinating materials and mailings, and tracking totals throughout the fiscal year
• Manage tracking systems for the foundation and government giving area, including: annual unrestricted and restricted income; credit lines; calendar with proposal, reporting, and other miscellaneous reminders and deadlines; master list of foundation donors; invitation lists; and outstanding proposals
• Mobilize capacities and features of the Met’s databases, including designing and pulling regular reports to track income, verify donor information, facilitate donor stewardship, monitor giving cycles, conduct research, and identify prospects; play key role in transitioning the team’s data needs and information into new Museum-wide database and tracking systems
• Review and sign off on exhibition, publication, and other miscellaneous donor credit lines, working with staff throughout the Museum
• Assist with stewardship of foundation donors, including monthly complimentary membership renewals, donor invitations to development events, scheduling lunches and meetings, and any follow-up
• Research new foundation prospects, categorize them into searchable formats, and write profiles
• Provide general support to the foundation and government team members
• Assist in the management of the Deputy Chief Development Officer’s calendar and team appointments
• Other related duties

Requirements and Qualifications:
Experience and Skills:
• Proven excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and close attention to detail required
• Must be highly motivated and able to function in a fast-paced environment
• Must work well with others and independently.
• At least one year of professional experience preferred, ideally in a non-profit development office.

Knowledge and Education:
• B.A. required
• Strong computer literacy required
• Knowledge of databases preferred
