Job description

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world’s finest museums, seeks a Development Officer for Apollo Circle and Travel Program. This position is responsible for the management, planning and organization of the Museum’s 425-member Apollo Circle (for individuals 21-39) as well as the Travel with the Met Program. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer for Individual Giving, the incumbent is responsible for all Apollo Circle member servicing, as well as developing marketing strategies and materials, programs, and events, including the annual Apollo Circle Benefit, attended by more than 1000 guests last year. Additionally, the Development Officer manages the Travel with the Met Program, which comprises 20+ overseas trips annually. The individual must work effectively with a wide range of Museum staff as well as with Members, program leadership, and an outside travel agency to ensure a high standard of programming, as well as the program’s overall success.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Managing of the Apollo Circle: member and volunteer servicing, acknowledgements, and renewals
  • Developing communications materials and overall direction for the Apollo Circle
  • Developing marketing strategy and materials for acquisition of new members
  • Developing and supporting the volunteer leadership for the Apollo Circle and the Apollo Circle Benefit
  • Planning and executing approximately 15 exclusive Apollo Circle events annually
  • Planning and executing the annual Apollo Circle Benefit event
  • Acting as the Museum’s spokesperson at Apollo Circle events
  • Working closely with the President’s Office and the Museum’s outside travel agency to develop and oversee the production of marketing materials, including web-based materials, for the Museum’s Travel Program
  • Briefing and following up with Museum lecturers and representatives on Museum-sponsored trips
  • Circulating lists, respond to inquiries, and address questions associated with the nearly 1000 Museum travelers annually
  • Supervising the Assistant Development Officer responsible for Apollo Circle and Travel Program
  • Other related duties

Requirements and Qualifications:

Experience and Skills:

  • Five or more years’ development or related experience desirable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills essential
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, required
  • Excellent computer skills desired
  • Good problem-solving and organizational skills required
  • Diplomacy and attention to detail essential
  • Supervisory experience

Knowledge and Education:

  • College degree required
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Office suite desired
  • Knowledge of donor database system desired
  • Understanding of New York younger philanthropic community desired
