Position Summary:

The Enterprise and Events Manager manages the seasonal enterprises at Naumkeag’s Welcome Center, including the Oak Café and Gift Shop.  In addition, the Manager provides support for public programming and special events. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in merchandising and retail sales and management, event planning and implementation, and experience in marketing and public relations, data reporting and evaluation. An open and collaborative approach is required, working in conjunction with other staff, committees, and volunteers. The Enterprise and Events Manager reports to the General Manager, and works closely with the Naumkeag Engagement Site Manager and in collaboration with colleagues in the Berkshires, the West Region and across Massachusetts.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee  Naumkeag’s Welcome Center, including gift shop operation and the Oak Café, which is supplied by  the Red Lion Inn;
  • Create and implement a merchandise plan for the gift shop, manage the shop budget, and maintain purchase, income, and expense records;
  • Promote enterprise opportunities such as weddings, corporate and private events, and manage related logistics of contracts, payments, and budget reporting;
  • Promote membership in The Trustees;
  • Maintain financial and visitor attendance records, including contact info, and demographics;
  • Work with area chambers of commerce, the Berkshire Visitors Bureau, MOTT and other tourism entities  to build awareness and visibility of Naumkeag and The Trustees and  in other ways effectively utilize tourism resources and promotion opportunities;
  • In collaboration with the Engagement Site Manager, conceive new innovative programs and activities to appeal to a wide range of audiences;
  • Provide events support  including scheduling and contracting performers, vendors, and other service providers for the weekly “Naumkeag at Night” series and/or other priority programs as determined by the Naumkeag management team;
  • Assist with advertising and promoting events, including through press releases, online postings, print materials, signs/banners, flyers, mailings, and email newsletters;
  • Promote membership in The Trustees at programs and events;
  • Promote sustainability in all programs and events;
  • Understand and balance the needs of enterprise and engagement with stewardship and cultural resources management;
  • Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years retail merchandising experience, including selecting, ordering, pricing, and managing inventory;
  • Experience planning and implementing events;
  • Experience with data collection, reporting, and analysis;
  • High school diploma.
  • Ability to work both independently on projects and as part of a team with regional and statewide staff;
  • Proven ability to complete assigned tasks and projects, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • Successful track record with creative, cost-effective publicity and marketing tools;
  • Knowledge of the regional tourism and business sectors;
  • Comfort using the Microsoft Office suite including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Publisher, and MS Power Point;
  • Outstanding organizational and communication skills;
  • A strong commitment to the mission of the Trustees of Reservations;
  • A friendly disposition and desire to work with volunteers and the general public;
  • Desire to contribute to outstanding customer service and visitor experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work a consistent seasonal schedule, which will include one weekend day from approximately May to October.
  • A valid driver’s license and vehicle, as well as a satisfactory driving record.
  • A satisfactory criminal background check (CORI).
  • Willing to travel within Massachusetts using a personal vehicle.
  • The ability to lift 40 lbs. independently and spend periods of time standing during events.
