Community Programs Coordinator

Description:

The Community Programs Coordinator creates opportunities for visual arts enrichment programs for communities in the South Shore region. The responsibilities of this position include: researching, designing, and implementing collaborative programs in schools; overseeing the Artist-in-Residence program; overseeing programs tailored to special needs constituents; and overseeing educational enrichment programs at the Art Center. The Coordinator has the responsibility to organize and implement services for after-school programs, public libraries, senior citizens’ centers, and other similar institutions.

The program coordinator will:

  1. Coordinate and schedule the three educational programs currently in place: Arts to Go, Looking at Art and Artist in Residence.
  2. Collaborate with the development director to seek sustainable funding sources for outreach programs.
  3. Create new programs to complement Art Center exhibitions. Serve as staff liaison to the exhibition committee.
  4. Represent the Art Center’s programs in person, by telephone, and by site visits in the field, being willing to attend faculty meetings and meetings of parent-teacher organizations.
  5. Recruit and orient a volunteer corps of docents and paid art instructors to provide classroom presentations, gallery talks, and participatory activities.
  6. Work with schools, docents, and instructors to negotiate fees, schedule presentations, and plan for the Art Center to host field trips. Follow through with invoicing and the bookkeeping of receipts for community programs.
  7. Update and maintain an electronic database of names and addresses, email addresses of constituents, including administrators, teachers, and parent volunteers. Create promotional materials and manage mass mailings as the need arises.
  8. Serve as liaison for the Art Center regarding relevant professional associations.

The Community Programs Coordinator works closely with the other program coordinators, the development director, the office manager, and reports directly to the executive director, as well as sitting, ex officio, on the education committee and the exhibition committee.

Qualifications:
Bachelors degree, art education experience, ability to work collaboratively with multiple constituencies. Interest in art and art history required.
