Director of Development – Rose Art Museum

Description:
The Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University is seeking a Director of Development that will report to the Rose Art Museum Director. This individual has responsibility for managing and coordinating all planning and follow up actions related to or affecting donors or prospects assigned to the museum Director, or for whom the Director has ongoing responsibilities.  The Director of Development also works with the Rose Board of Advisors and members of the museum staff to determine and realize financial goals.  The candidate will have a proven track record of partnering with management teams and boards to strategically assist in implementing successful, comprehensive fundraising efforts.  Close coordination with the Institutional Advancement Division regarding funding strategy, stewardship and donor relations, prospect management, gift processing, and other areas to mine possible relationships and identify prospects. Strong writing skills and a collaborative style required.

Examples of Key Responsibilities:
  • Directs fundraising, develops ideas, and reviews prospects. Includes preparation, cultivation and solicitation, and follow up with prospects, donors, fellowships and foundation grants.  Keeps lists, reviews and manages follow up as appropriate regarding contacts, reports and stewardship coordination.  Communicates/meets regularly with VP for Development and other IA staff colleagues to coordinate efforts.  Supports the Director on management of the Rose Board of Advisors.
  • Coordinates the planning, implementation, and tracking of strategy for all museum Director prospects and donors. This includes assisting the museum Director in evaluating and setting prospect priorities; ensuring that all prospects are properly coded for tracking purposes; regularly reviewing prospect status, and recommending next actions and moves.
  • Works with the Rose Board of Advisors on their gifts as well as maintaining their own small portfolio of donors.
  • Manages all follow-up activities subsequent to museum Director prospect meetings or conversations, including coordinating with other development staff and reaching out to other university personnel as directed by the museum Director.  Proactively identifies resources that will be useful in advancing prospect strategies. Prepares gift agreements as appropriate, as well as all materials needed in support of Director’s meetings and/or conversations with prospects and donors.
  • Works with the Director and Collections Manager on gifts of works of art, including acknowledgment letters and keeping gifts on schedule.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 5-8 years total work-related experience.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Strong writing skills and a collaborative style required.
