Visitor Services Manager – The Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University

The Rose Art Museum seeks a Visitor Services Manager with exceptional interpersonal skills who will promote the welfare of the Museum while facilitating a positive and engaging experience for visitors. The VSM will be someone who enjoys a creative environment, will be able to think on their feet and lead in a team setting. Weekend and evening hours are required. The VSM will report to the Museum’s Deputy Director.

Responsibilities include:

Lead the daily operations of the galleries and visitor services desk.

Maintain a well-informed, working knowledge of Museum exhibitions and programs for ongoing training of guards and the general public.

Schedule tours and act as a point person for special events.

Hires, disciplines and promotes museum guards.

Prepares guard work schedule; authorizes leave.

Conducts staff meetings and evaluates employee performance.

Ensures guards are properly trained and attired; plans training programs with university staff members and consultants as needed.

Keeps, maintains and generates accurate attendance reports and administers visitor surveys.

Generates monthly reports for budget office including cash and credit sales.

Resolves visitor concerns and complaints to their satisfaction and the Museum’s.

Liaise with the Department of Public Safety to ensure all security protocols are followed.

Works with Facilities staff to ensure that the galleries are clean and well maintained.

Maintains supplies of visitor amenity-related materials such as gallery guides and other visitor information.

Participates in appropriate planning and committee activities.

Works with Grounds and Public Safety Departments to provide way signage and identification badges for all staff.

Assists the Collections Manager and Director of Public Safety in developing, implementing and maintaining museum standards for the Emergency Handbook and Disaster Plan.

Networks with other Museum Visitor Service, Security and other applicable local organizations.

Performs other duties from time-to-time.

Qualifications:

Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree with course work in business or arts administration preferred. Three years of related customer and/or loss prevention service, including at least two years of supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge of point of sales systems.

Knowledge of visitor services principles and practices; knowledge of museum services and security preferred.

Knowledge of financial record-keeping practices and procedures.

Ability to understand and implement the Museum’s mission, activities, services and programs; interpret Museum policies and procedures for the visitor; suggest solutions and initiatives to refine policies and systems.

Ability to train, direct, evaluate, and motivate staff and volunteers.

Ability to work in fast-paced environment; adhere to deadlines; demonstrate flexibility in meeting shifting demands and priorities.

Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy at all times.

Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
