Security Officer

Description:
Maintain a safe and secure environment for visitors and staff by patrolling and monitoring the buildings and grounds of Heritage Museums and Gardens, acting as first responder in case of emergencies, and following emergency procedures.  Assure the safety and security of collections, following security protocols, and assuring the safety of visitors. The officer is also assigned as needed to work on facilities maintenance tasks.  Full time 40 hour/week seasonal position. Some Part Time positions available. Must be able to work some weekends.

Qualifications:

  • Secures premises, collections, the visiting public and staff by patrolling property; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points to ensure that Museum visitors and staff have a safe and pleasant experience.
  • Be well versed in all security procedures and policies
  • Act as first responder in case of security emergencies, assessing the situation, calling the appropriate additional responders and coordinating staff response
  • Be well versed in appropriate first aid procedures and administer them as needed
  • Report potential security issues regarding buildings, collections and operations to supervisor
  • Monitor exhibits, displays, museum galleries, and grounds to ensure that they are complete, undamaged, in proper working order and free from hazardous conditions and report any problems or inconsistencies to the Facilities and Security Manager.
  • Assist in traffic control and parking duties as assigned.
  • Manage crowd control as required.
  • Open or secure Museum galleries, buildings, and property entrances at the beginning or end of operating hours.
  • Read, thoroughly understand and implement when necessary, the Heritage Museums and Gardens Emergency Action Plan and evacuation procedures.
  • Respond to emergency situations and contact the proper channels (i.e. 911 emergency, police, etc.) when needed
  • Guide and monitor large groups of people during potentially dangerous situations should need be.
  • Maintain a daily shift log.  Complete reports as required by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses and completing Incident Reports as required.
  • Inspect, any safety equipment (defibrillator), first aid equipment and supplies, etc. and be sure that they are in working order, and that kits are stocked with supplies.  Be able to administer first aid according to HMG policy.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
