The Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum is looking for intelligent, hard-working individuals to join our company. Currently we have an opening for an Assistant Manager in the fast-paced environment of Abigail’sTea Room.

Our Tea Room is a one-of-a-kind facility positioned atop a floating barge with panoramic views of Boston Harbor. We serve the same blends of tea thrown overboard during the night of the original Boston Tea Party on December 16th, 1773, as well as a light lunch and bakery menu.

  • Assist in supervising the staff to achieve goals; assist in planning and organizing workloads and staff assignments/schedules to ensure most efficient use of staff; train, motivate, communicate job expectations, and assist in evaluating staff and conducting annual performance evaluation; give recommendations on advancements and disciplinary actions.  In manager’s absence, coordinate with the Office Manger, General Manager or the Corporate Director of Human Resources when responding to severe employee complaints, harassment allegations, and civil rights complaints.
  • Assist in opening and closing the Tea Room includes, but not limited to, opening procedures, ensuring everything is ready for that day, opening food prep work is completed, distribute cash banks; ensuring that Tea Room is property staffed; and closing procedures, ensuring everything is ready for leaving at the end of the day, equipment has be cleaned and food is properly stored.
  • Supervising and assisting  Tea Room Attendants with customers, operating the registers, answering the phone to have adequate floor coverage, stocking supplies, performing food preparation duties, cleaning duties;  such as cleaning dishes, spilled food, drinks or broken dishes, wiping down tables and seats, walls, equipment in food service areas, sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpet, tidying up server station and counters, removing trash from tables, take out trash, or checking and cleaning the bathroom to maintain cleanliness.
  • Assist manager with monitoring inventory, placing and receiving order, security of inventory, monies/receipts, equipment and property.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to Motivate, develop, and direct people as they work; secure their commitment to the department and company goals.
  • Ability to manage one’s own time and the time of others.
  • Be knowledgeable of local tourist related information to provide accurate information.
  • Shall be able to familiarize one’s self with the popular teas and servicing procedures from 1773 and sharing this information accurately with the customer.
  • Ability to traverse all areas of the company’s operations and public areas, including ascend and descend stairs, ladders and narrow passageways, lift, lower and carry packages that typically weigh 25 – 40 pounds and may weigh up to 50 lbs. varying distances while wearing a colonial costume.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and difficult people both in person and via the telephone while maintaining a professional and pleasant demeanor.
  • Shall be able to read, write and speak fluent English in order to communicate with fellow CASTmembers and the general public.
  • Shall be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 4 years of cafe/restaurant experience preferred.
  • 1-3 years cafe/restaurant supervisory experience preferred.
