Visitor Services Associate, Part Time

Located in downtown Wenham, MA the nonprofit Wenham Museum, founded in 1922, accredited by the American Association of Museums in 1973 offers employees an opportunity to interact with a variety of visitors. The ideal candidate will possess effective interpersonal skills and an outgoing knowledge of the museum for visiting adults, parents and young children alike. A friendly, warm personality that reflects a natural enthusiasm for helping visitors is essential. The Visitor Services Associate serves as the first point of contact upon arrival at the museum, this position will be the museum’s ambassador and as such, will keep abreast of, and be able to share important information about programs, exhibitions and special events. Work schedule will be determined by the museum with each job application, which will include some weekend work. Evening work for special events will also be required from time-to-time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Daily tasks include admission, membership and event sales, guest list check-in, crowd control during special events, responding to Emails, and providing general information to visitors. The Visitor Services Associate will create a highly positive experience for museum visitors at the Visitor Services desk that is conducive to repeat visitation, membership conversion, shop sales and positive word of mouth.

  • Operates register, handles cash, credit card and special transactionsaccurately and efficiently.
  • Answers the museum main line telephone in a friendly manner, efficiently routes calls and relays information to staff.
  • Assist in the stocking, pricing, receiving and merchandising of the museum retail shop under the direction of the Shop Buyer.
  • Assist with inventory updates in the museum’s point of sale software system.
  • Administratively support bookings for birthday parties and special events.
  • Assist with the creation of registration pages for programs and special events using the museum’s online registration system software (training will be provided).
  • Manage the placement of literature, signage and other visitor print materials across the museum facility.
  • Administratively support the Director of External Affairs for ongoing outreach, marketing and relationship building tasks. This includes web source content research, social content uploading, press release emailing and other online tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Retail job experience interacting with customers, providing customer services. Strong math skills. Nonprofit public facing job experience a PLUS.
  • Current college under graduate or college graduate. BS/BA History, education or communications a PLUS.
  • Ability to work unsupervised, directly managed and ongoing part of a cross-functional team.
  • Accurate typing skills and excellent grammar (both verbal and written).
  • High level of working with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook software. Working knowledge of social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn necessary. Working knowledge of Adobe suite and web based cloud subscription tools such as Constant Contact, Canva a big, big PLUS.
  • A “can-do” attitude, initiative and willingness to perform additional duties as needed to accomplish the goals of Visitors Services and the Wenham Museum’s nonprofit mission.
  • OTHER:
  • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation is required. Able to lift and carry 40lbs.  Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.
  • Schedules now available:  Through August 15, 2015, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with occasional weekends. After August 15, 2015 the schedule may be re-determined with the successful applicant.
