Interpretive Exhibit Developer

Experienced educator sought for a full-time position developing interpretive children’s science exhibits and/or informal learning experiences to begin immediately.

Responsibilities:

 Works directly with the Director of Interpretive Services, Interpretive Services Manager and Interpretive Specialist

 Interfaces with Project Managers and exhibit designers on specific projects

 Assists with content development, including conducting and organizing content subject research, distilling research into summative reports, and coordinating with consulting content specialists

 Conducts online and primary source research for content assets, e.g. images, objects, media, music, etc.

 Participates in the development process with design team contributing interpretive and educational perspectives from concept to fabrication

 Assists in writing exhibit scripts and other narrative descriptions

 Assists in developing and conducting evaluations and audience research

 Creates and updates item schedule database tracking all text, photos, graphics, artifacts and other items for each exhibit project

 Attends in-house design meetings

 Attends client meetings

 Performs other project-related administrative duties

Skills & Qualifications:

 At least two years’ experience working in museums and/or exhibit design firms developing curriculum/educational programs, visitor experiences, and exhibits

 Master’s degree in an area of museum studies or museum education

 Background in science highly desirable

 Course training in developmental theory, child development, audience evaluation highly desirable

 Ability to distill high-level science concepts for the general public and school children

 Passion for promoting the development of children in informal learning environments

 Ability to develop creative solutions in exhibit development situations to reach various audiences

 Ability to work independently as well as in teams through a process-oriented approach to project development

 Excellent verbal and written communication skills

 Excellent organizational and time-management skills

 Excellent word processing and database skills
