Job Summary:

The primary duty of this position is to monitor the care of the musical instrument collection of the Country Music Hall of Fame.  Additional duties include: working with the exhibit/programming and education teams to interpret, display, and refine the collection. The applicant should have a knowledge of the history of instruments and makers and a strong background in basic collections care is mandatory.

The Collection Manager will not be required to do all of the collections care themselves, but will work with the registrar, curators to ensure that modern best practices are in place for the long term care of the collection.

The Collection Manager will monitor the conditions within archives and exhibit spaces, and make recommendations for repair, restoration, and preservation work. Collection manager will assist

In the preparation of annual budget for collection care. The position requires an ability to multitask working with scholars, educators, donors, designers, musicians and students. The candidate will be expected to accomplish other departmental tasks as assigned.

Role Summary:

• Knowledge of collections management software and techniques,
• musical instrument cataloguing standards
• Basic understanding of handling, playing, and conservation
• treatment issues and ethics specific to the field
• Participate in the planning of exhibitions, research and publications; performers,
• public programming, and educational events
• Maintain cataloguing in keeping with current research and descriptive methods
• Answer correspondence and route specific questions to the appropriate colleague
• Build relationships with dealers, donors, etc.
• Provide collection related tours and lectures and docent training
• Other related duties

• Degree in music, music education, music history or related field
• Professional music background and knowledge of museology
• Knowledge of best practices in handling and care of instruments required
